The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures offers a major and a minor in German studies. Students majoring in German studies must complete a senior research project written in consultation with a German studies professor in either English or German. Students must complete at least six courses in German at the 300 or 400 level and at least three interdisciplinary courses that include a Languages Across the Curriculum component.
The department also offers a combined major in German and English literature for students who wish to pursue in-depth work in both languages and literary traditions. The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures has also partnered with the Robins School of Business to offer students a German studies major with an international business option. Students studying international business are required to study abroad for at least one semester.
German minors must take five courses at the 300 level or higher, including one LAC course. All students must have satisfied their COM2 general education language requirements before beginning 300 level coursework.
